Visualize Your Dreams
How are you?
.
.
Last April 11-22, 2016, I gave a 10-day life skills training to the out-of-school and unemployed youth of Cebu City. It was a very fulfilling and meaningful experience. Tiring, yes! I visited a spa for 4 days in a span of less than two weeks! I was literally running on God’s grace, massage, and little sleep. But seeing the transformation of the participants as the training days went by gave me deep joy.
.
.
There’s something that bothered me a bit as I did one-on-one mentoring for my students.
.
.
I asked each of them what their dreams were. Their answers? Janitor. Waitress. Bagger. Housekeeper. Hotel Bell boy. Cashier.
.
.
These are noble jobs. But I never thought these could be the dream jobs for many.
.
.
That’s when I made a decision. I will inspire my students to dream higher. I did two things:
.
.
One, I taught them a technique called visualisation. We set the mood by turning off the lights and playing soft, inspiring music. Then I asked my students to stand up, close their eyes, and imagine… I asked them to imagine the kind of life they’ve always dreamed of. I asked them to imagine their dream jobs…. their dream house…the dream family they wanted to build….the places they wanted to visit… the people they wanted to help.
.
.
As I was leading them through the visualisation process, slowly, I could see some of them wiping away their tears. As I continued through the visualisation process, some were smiling. Some were in tears.
.
.
Two, I shared a story that they can all relate to — the story of my friend Arnold Vargas. Like them, Arnold Vargas didn’t finish school because of poverty. Like them, Arnold Vargas dreamed of becoming a janitor.
.
.
Fast forward to today, Arnold is a successful entrepreneur. He has a publishing company with 25 sales agents. He was able to build a house for his family. He was cars. He invests in the stock market.
.
.
After the Visualization and after they heard the story of Arnold Vargas, my students were so inspired. Later on, when I asked them what their dreams were, there was a marked improvement. This time, they saw their “dream jobs” as stepping stones to their real dreams.
.
.
Randomly, these are their dreams. Become a chef. Own a restaurant. Put up a home-for-the aged. Become a successful manager. Own a house. Travel the world. Build a beautiful family. To become like Arnold Vargas.
.
.
What are your dreams? What is in your bucket list?
.
.
Is writing a book one of them?
.
.
Let me lead you to a Visualization Process now.
.
.
Close your eyes. Turn off any loud music and play something soft and inspirational. Or simply tune in to silence.
.
.
Imagine yourself writing a book. Imagine yourself holding the book that you’ve written. Imagine signing the books for your readers. Imagine people getting inspired as they turn the pages of your books. Imagine walking to National Book Store and seeing your book in the shelves. Imagine walking inside the mall and someone approaches you and asks, “Are you __? OMG! I read your book and it inspired…!” Imagine getting a call from the HR Department of a large multinational company and asking you, “Can we invite you to give a talk to our employees?”
.
.
Can you imagine it? If you can imagine it, you can do it!
.
.
Let me help you further. On June 11, 2016, I will conduct a half day introductory seminar on “How to Write a Book.”
.
.
And there’s more! Meet first-time authors who were able to write their books. They joined the 90-Day Book Writing Challenge 2.0 and they were able to finish writing their books! They will launch their books on June 11.
