Learn How a Former Informal Settler Became a Property Developer

A few Sundays ago, Maves Angeles spoke in front of 10,000 people at the PICC Plenary Hall in Pasay City. She shared the stage with none other than Bo Sanchez.

I was part of the audience.  I was deeply moved and inspired by her story. We’ve known each other in Toastmasters, seminars, and The Feast but it was only that Sunday when I got to know her more.

She shared that she and her family used to live in the squatters area. In a span of 20 years, they moved houses not just once, not just twice, but– get this — 15 times!!! It’s like moving houses almost every year!

Imagine unpacking your things and packing them again and unpacking them once more. Multiply that 15 times. What’s even more difficult was that sometimes, their move to another location was unplanned. For instance, they had to move out because the house had to be demolished.

Painful, isn’t it? Maves shared that she had this constant fear that their house would be demolished.

She told herself, I will not marry until we buy our own house. I will let my parents experience the good life they never had.

Maves emerged a winner. At 27, she was able to help her parents buy their first house. At 28, she put up her own real estate company called Happy Homes Realty where she is the President. She is also happily married to her dream husband Christian Angeles.

From a former informal settler (or squatter in our vernacular), she is now a property developer.

When we hear stories like this, we tend to think that this only happens in movies. It sounds surreal to us. As my friend and former colleague once told me, it is only when you see the person in the flesh that you begin to realize that “Hey! This is for real!”

How did Maves go from being an informal settler to becoming a property developer?

I invited Maves to share her story on October 12, 2013 in the first-ever money seminar I’ve personally organized called How to Achieve FINANCIAL SUCCESS so You Can Pursue Your Passions and Live Your Dreams!
