3 Lessons from ALPHA HR Summit!
Yesterday, July 28, 2017, I was invited to speak at the ALPHA HR Summit for their 20th Anniversary.
They do the summit every after five years, so I really felt privileged and happy to be a part of their celebration.
There were about 200 HR officers and professionals present in a function room in Bellevue Alabang.
The other speakers were bestselling authors Jon Escoto and Chinkee Tan.
The topic given to me was “Keys to a Happy and Meaningful Life.” In my talk, I shared 5 G’s to stay happy and motivated at work and in life every single day.
Today, I would like to share with you my 3 key takeaways from the event.
One, Team Work works!
ALPHA is an HR association of the different companies located in Laguna Technopark. It’s a joy to see the executives and HR officers of these different companies come together to get to know each other better, share best practices, and support each other.
You could see companies not competing against each other but supporting each other. They promote a culture of supporting and sharing.
This made me reflect about my own team. I was the speaker but I had the support of a great team — Michelle did my hair and make up, Clarice helped me coordinate with the organisers the details of the event, Jem & Yana were with me during my talk, sold books on my behalf, and documented the event through photos and videos, and the two uber drivers drove us to and from the venue. I love my team and I am grateful for them!
Two, If you want to keep growing, you need to keep learning.
Learning never stops. You cannot teach what you don’t know. That’s why I admire the HR officers and executives of the companies that comprise ALPHA. They invest in their learning and growth.
As a speaker, I sensed that the participants were so receptive, warm, and engaged as an audience and that spoke volumes about their humility and passion to learn!
Three, Listen.
I arrived right after Bro. Jon Escoto spoke and I had a chance to be seated beside him for lunch. I took the opportunity to ask him questions and listen to his words of wisdom. Since Bro. Jon is an experienced speaker, I asked for public speaking tips which he gladly gave. I felt as if he’s been my mentor for a long time already. Hehe! He was so kind and generous to share his time and wisdom. Thanks, Bro. Jon! 🙂
I also stayed and listened to Chinkee Tan’s talk who spoke right after I gave my talk. I listened to him from two perspectives — that of an attendee and that of a speaker. I observed how he talked to the audience and I even took down notes during his talk.
There you have it! Happy to share that beautiful experience with you. One for the books!
Special thanks to Alpha for inviting me. Her name is the same as their association’s name. 🙂
And yes! I’d be happy to visit your company and speak on personal financial management, happiness, productivity, etc.
