How a 7-minute Pitch won us P100,000!
Yesterday, I came from F1 Hotel in BGC to attend the Press Conference for the winners of Sun Life Foundation’s Brighter World Program, a financial literacy grant project in partnership with The Spark Project. ABS CBN media team was there. Bloggers were also there.

My team won! Yahoo!
.
During the press conference, Mr. Alex Narciso, the President of Sun Life saw me and said,
.
.
“Wow! You remembered?” I asked.
.
“Of course! And I also remember your story about Mathew (Hamilton Gault).” He answered.
.
By draw lots, I was the 20th person to pitch!
.
Weeks prior to the pitch day, I prepared really, really well. I asked myself,
.
How can I make my pitch engaging?
How can I make them laugh in the first few seconds so they will relax and become more receptive to the rest of my pitch?
How can I make my pitch so seamless and easy to follow?
Then I went on saying, “Thank you for not giving up on us. Thank you for not giving up on the children of sugar cane farmers in Bacolod.
Then I shared two touching and inspiring stories to emphasize the relevance of our project. Then I proceeded with the nitty gritty details of the project.
And that was how we won a grant amounting to P100,000! That’s the power of telling authentic, touching, relevant stories!

Maybe you’re a corporate executive, a business leader, a CEO, or someone who has a very important message to share. You did the heavy lifting already — you researched for it, you tested out the idea, and you worked hard for it for months or maybe even years.
Now, it’s time to communicate the message. What if you can’t articulate your thoughts well? What if you won’t be able to communicate that idea well? Then maybe all the hard work can possibly be put to waste. Sigh.
Your ability to communicate effectively plays a huge part in your success and happiness — whether you’re an employee, a boss, an entrepreneur, a freelancer, a student, a parent. More so, if you want to be a paid professional speaker.
I encourage you to invest in enhancing your confidence and communication skills. How? Join public speaking organizations, read books on public speaking, attend workshops, seek mentors. There are many ways. 🙂
Hope this post made you smile today! 🙂
Oh by the way, the P100,000 won’t go to our pockets. All the money will benefit the 50 chosen children of sugar cane farmers in Bacolod. I met these children in October 2017 when I did a pro bono talk to their school and I learned that these children’s greatest dreams were to become a maid, a janitor, a bagger, a cashier. Our mission is to inspire them and teach them to dream bigger. We’ll also teach them financial literacy. There will be mentoring as well. We hope that these 50 will create ripples of change in their community. Happy to be part of this mission 🙂
Have a great weekend! 🙂
I wish you success and happiness!

P.S. Have you heard of my public speaking workshop? My team told me that we only have 9 slots left for “Speak to Inspire.” This is the one and only public speaking LIVE workshop I’m doing for 2018. I’ll share with you in one day what I learned so hard in 11 years!

This is happening on July 28, 2018 from 10am-5pm at SMX Manila (beside SM MOA). This is also in partnership with SMX Academix.
