Dream and your dreams will fall short by St. Josemaria Escriva

Why Mere Dreaming is Not Enough

Three friends Juan, Pedro, and Pepito went to a far flung barrio up north of the Philippines and they found one boiled egg. The problem is, there are three of them and there is only one boiled egg. And so they agreed that they will sleep first and dream. The person who will go farthest in his dream will win the boiled egg.

And so the three of them went to sleep.

The next morning, they got together. Juan was very excited to share his dream. He said, “I dreamed I was in Boracay. White sands… the sun was shining with all its splendor. Oh, I can still imagine how delicious the mango shake was…”

Pedro said, “Oh! I dreamed I was in Paris and I saw the famous Eiffel Tower.

When it was Pepito’s turn, Pepito paused for a moment and said, “Well, I was worried you must have gone so far and it might take a while for you to come back. So I ate the boiled egg.”

Pepito was a man of action.

It’s great to dream. As St. Josemaria Escriva once said, “Dream, and your dreams will fall short.”

Act on your dreams. :)
Morning exercise in a park in Paris. Let’s act on our dreams. 🙂

However, dreams remain dreams if we don’t act on them.

I remember an anecdote I read in Ardy Roberto’s book Ang Pera na Di Bitin.

Boy 1: I dream of earning at least Php250,000 per month like my Dad.

Boy 2: Wow! Your Dad is earning that much?!

Boy 1: Nope, he also dreams of earning that amount.

So how do we act on our dreams?

Let me offer you three very simple steps.

1. Believe

Believe that you can make your dreams come true. What’s the use of dreaming if we don’t believe we could achieve our dreams? Remove those doubts in your heart and think that with determination and time, we could realize our dreams.

2. Act

Let’s say you want to become a successful entrepreneur. You’ve got to act on your dreams.

Do everything to make your dreams come true. Find mentors. Read books. Educate and train yourself.

3. Let go

Don’t be too attached to your dreams. Learn to be happy even if you haven’t achieved your dreams yet. 🙂

What dreams do you want to achieve? What simple act can you do today to make your dreams come true? Kindly feel free to share in the comments.

    Hi Sha,
Great article. Having a dream and not acting on it is like preparing a candle in the dark without ever lighting it. No action, no light.

I believe that the key to make the necessary steps in acting on our dreams is to learn to enjoy taking actions the same way we enjoy visualizing our dreams.

We all at one point in our lives were ‘Juan’ and ‘Pedro’ who were happy just dreaming until we reached another point and learned that we can also be happy (or even happier) eating the boiled egg (taking the action) the way Pepito did… and the way he enjoyed the egg. :).

    I love your article Sha.

Haha. I love that morning exercise. Good article Sha. It is humorous and informative. I was specifically struck by the Letting go part. I agree with it.

Dream is very good and act to fulfilled our goal, but sometimes we need money or capital to act totally your dream. For those have not capital but they have a dream to be successful.
